Thank God Penny is helping me through this blogging business, or I doubt if I could figure out this daunting new world! So my thoughts on blogging...here goes...
The only experience I have in blogging is reading a periodical blog that one of my colleagues uses. Although his commentaries are eloquent and very truthful, I haven't read many of them due to mostly time constraints. The issue I have with writing my own blog similar to my colleagues, is that sometimes he borders on political activism and upsets others in the process. Although a blog is a place where one can express his/her ideas, sentiments, and arguments, I'm not sure a public forum is a place to voice that. Now, that's just me. Some people feel very comfortable in doing this, but I however, am not happy to endure conflict or cause hard feelings.
I would imagine a quality blog stays very near the normal parameters of writing (conventions, etc.), but is a place where one can write their feelings, ideas, emotions as they come, not necessarily in an organized way. I guess if one doesn't use proper conventions, like on facebook when I got happy birthday messages like, "happy birthday tammie", which was not written conventially correct, but nonetheless still delivered the message. I guess if one is a stickler for incorrect spelling and conventions, (like my highschool English teacher was), then he/she might have a problem with this. This whole new pendulum switch to the high tech world makes me feel old! My kids wouldn't even understand card catalogs, microfishe, or that I never had a cell phone growing up. They would tell me I've from the dinosaur age. It's much like my mom remembering her old record player and the idea of a "scratched record". Kids would have no clue of that meaning. By the same token, my mother would ask, "What's a blog?" For the older generation, it feels much the same!(By the way, I'm so proud of my mom...she's texting now!) There's hope for us all!
In any case, I'll feel so hip after I finish this class and have familiarity with blogging, chat rooms and web equipment. Woo hoo, I'm on my way! Goodbye scratched records and hello blogging!
I found a cool blog for teachers that I thought you may like. Check it out! http://www.teachingvillage.org/2010/01/31/its-the-small-things-that-count-by-david-deubelbeiss/
Congratulations, Tammie! I agree with you that I am most certainly learning more about technology than I had anticipated with this online class! How do you feel about blogging now? I think that it is kind of fun.
ReplyDeleteHi Lexie! Yes, I'm definitely learning a lot! I'm hoping to find the time to explore more of the designing part of it. That will be the most fun part!
ReplyDeleteYou are TOO CUTE, I love how you are looking at communication. The old way of cummunication and the new way of communication... It is great how our world has changed! Melissa
